THE LAZY PROFESSOR

"A good night sleep. I need a good night sleep" the young professor whined as the moving chair spins his body around at a lazy speed.

"Shut up, prof. You had like 10 hours of sleep yesterday" said his assistant who sat not far from where he was spinning.

"I need it" said the lazy professor again like a young kid begging to have his toys back.

His assistant shook his head and turned back to the work he was doing on the computer in front of him.

A fire alarm broke out and the whole room turned into chaos. Someone or something had tripped the alarm. The professor's assistant quickly make his way outside where the occupants of all the other labs were peeking out to see what the occasion was.

"What's up?" said one of the girl from the edge of the hallway. Everyone else shook their head.

"This is a stick up! Everyone hands up and on the floor, NOW!!" a man ran up from the stairs behind the girl with a shotgun in his hand and shot the ceiling. The explosion rocked the hallway, pushing everyone down on the floor like a powerful blast of air. The professor's assistant did as he was told but managed to stole a glance inside the room.

                "Professor!"

He was already sleeping on his chair.

                "Shit" said the professor's assistant.

A group of tough looking man in ski masks entered the hallway and began ransacking the laboratories one after the other. They were looking for something, thought the assistant. After much searching, they came to the professor's lab and crash their way inside, kicking chairs and tables all over the place.

"Boss, this is the lab" said one of the smaller man in the group. His ski mask was partially raised, revealing the stubble around his mouth.

The man he called Boss turned to him and pulled his mask back down. "NEVER! let your mask partially revealed. UNDERSTAND ME?!" said the Boss. The smaller man nodded his head, pulling it away like a small kid in front of an adult.

The assistant said nothing. He closed his eyes and prayed for the professor to be safe.

"What is this?" a voice caught his ears. It was the professor's. Oh shit, thought the assistant.

"It's a stick up, WHAT! DO YOU THINK! THIS IS?!" said the Boss. He towered over the professor who was standing with his hands inside the pocket of his lab coat.

The professor looked at the man, top to bottom, bottom to top. Scanning him, analyzing him. He shifts his sight to the men behind him, taking great care to see their weapons and where the stood before turning back to the Boss. "Hmm, crazy bunch. You're here for the strength formula, I assume" he said.

The Boss sniggered. "We have captain obvious in the house here guys!" he said and laughed. The other followed though they were hesitant at first.

The professor sighed. "Well too bad for you, it's not here" said the professor.

                "WHAT?!"

The Boss grabbed the professor's shirt and pulled him off his feet.

                "Say that again?"

The professor grinned. He reseat his glasses and pulled his head back. "I said" He took a deep breath and slammed his head at the Boss, sending the big man flying across the room, hitting the others like a bowling ball hitting bowling pins. "It's not here anymore" he landed on his feet and make his way towards the unconscious group. "Stupid monkeys" The professor turned to his assistant. "Hey, Fred"

The assistant scrambled to his feet towards the professor and the unconscious group. "Ah. You did it again" he said, ruffling his orange hair looking at the broken computers behind the group. "That's gonna make the boss upset, you know" he added.

"Like I care. Clean the place out. I'm going back" said the professor.

                "Again?" said Fred discouraged.

"Shut up and just do it. I need a sleep" said the professor and left the room.

THE WARRIOR

Rein watched as the beam saber of his mech pierced through the cockpit of his enemy, cleaving the 90 ton monster half and taking its pilot with it. He stomped the right foot pedal and felt his body pulled forward and pinned to the seat as the g-force exerted by his mech turning pounced his body.  He grits his teeth and bend forward, not even wanting to watch the remnants of his enemy flying across his panoramic display after being roundhouse kicked by his mech. He closed his eyes and sighed. I'm tired.

Wires whirred and gears turned as the door to the cockpit opened. The ray from the sun blinded Rein for awhile. He placed his hand in front of his face and make his way carefully towards the mouth of his opened cockpit. Down below a group of trucks stopped by the kneeling body of his mech. A young engineer looked up to him and smiled. "Hey, Rein!!" he shouted.

Rein smiled back, but said nothing.

"So, how was it the mech?" said the young engineer.

Rein gave him a glance and a quick grin. "It was okay. The feet servo and the cockpit balancer needs a little more work though. The g tug is horrible" he said.

The young engineer tapped his temple with his fingers with his eyes closed as if thinking of something. "Done. I've told the others what you just said, it'll be better tomorrow" he said with his usual smile.

Rein sighed. Tomorrow. He hated the word. Something about it and the war makes him sick. Must be the killing and the tossing and turning. The gs. He hated the g-forces. Rein rests his head on the rock behind him and let his eyes fell to the blue carpet in front of him. Seagulls danced in the air, looking for anything to eat, shouting in words no human can ever understand. The wind kissed his face, gentle yet cold. He closed his eyes and hoped tomorrow will never come.

THE SEER

Rain draped the sky in shades of black and white. Neons blurred in the distance, bloated by the walls that runs from the sky. The sound of horns and of tires rubbing the street echoed back and forth. Lenny pulled his head up and watched into the darkness. His eyes bright blue. He smiled and looked at Smiley, the big brown cat in front of him sleeping underneath the tiny umbrella he found dumped in an alley before. The cat purred as it tossed and turned, scratching its head in occasion.

People walked past him without eyes. All to busy looking forward with their cellphones stuck to their ears. Such is life. They never looked at those who stopped.

Lenny pulled his hood forward. The trickles of rain touched the edge of his chin. He kept his smile. He always did. It was part of him. He shifted his legs when he felt them cramped. Drenched in the coldness of midnight rain meant nothing to him. He was insignificant to the whole movement of the universe.

Lenny took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. As he did, his eyes began to glow blue and the world around him began to crawl to a halt. He looked up to the tear shaped water surrounding him and closed his umbrella. "Come on Smiley, it's time to go"

The big brown cat in front of him looked to him, partly annoyed. "Now?" it said.

Lenny smiled. "Yes, now. The council is gathering. We need to be there"

Smiley got on its four legs and stretched up like a surprised cat one see in cartoons. "Ah, that's better" it stretched and crack its neck before sticking itself to Lenny's legs as he got up. "Let's go then"

Lenny looked around him and make his way towards the center of the road. Cars around him stopped, blurred like a video paused at a weird moment. He pulled out his hand from the pocket of his winter coat and points it to the empty space in front of him. The air wobbled. It twists and turned, getting more violent until finally it cracked, revealing a vortex behind it. Lenny inhaled and replaced his hand back into the pocket of his winter coat. "Let's go"

"It must be hard being a Seeker" said Smiley as he jumped into the vortex.

Lenny smiled. "When you can see the past of everyone you touch,  then yes. It is hard" he said and followed Smiley.

The vortex shattered and the paused world resumed leaving no trace of the man with his big brown cat sitting by the wall in the rain.

JUST WATCH

Irmi sat on the sofa watching the movie playing on tv. It was about a warrior seeking redemption and the scene was the warrior looking at the vast ocean of enemies carpeting the plains below. The warrior frowned, unsure  of what to do with his mere soldiers of 800 strong men. He turned to his men and gave the inspirational speech. It was the signal that the movie had reached its peak and something big was about to happen next.

Irmi shifted his position to his side when his mother came from behind and tapped his back. "Is that a movie?" she asked. Irmi nodded without saying a word. Silence fell for awhile.

The movie then switched to the scene where the warrior led his men to a narrow passage through two high rise ledges. They stopped at the mouth of the passage and watched as the enemies marched towards them like giant black ants carrying spears and shields and swords.

"Who are they warring with?" his mother said again.

"The bad guy" Irmi said without looking.

"Who's the bad guy? Is it that guy?" his mother said pointing towards the hero as he shouts to his men with vulgar words.

Irmi sighed. "No, that's the good guy" he said. He clutched the cushion on the sofa tight to his chest. The scene then turned to a battle scene.

"Are they the bad guy?" his mother said, this time pointing towards the giant as it tries to squash the hero beneath his feet.

And yet again, Irmi sighed. "Yes mom" he said.

His mother nodded her head and continued with her work, moving away from Irmi, leaving him to continue with the movie. At last, Irmi said in his heart. He turned his focus back to the movie.

The battle scene ended and the movie switched to the scene where the hero was busy fighting the elite guard of his enemy when his mother came to him and tapped his shoulder.

                "Who's the bad guy?"

Irmi smacked his face with his hand.
